I have a love-hate relationship with makeup. LOVE the way it accentuates a women’s already beautiful facial features but like most eligible bachelors, hate waiting for dates to finish getting ready. For the first time, I had to truly pay attention and now understand - it’s an Art. Natalia Zurawska, a talented hair and makeup artist from Judy Inc, shows Industry Insider the tips and tricks to getting the perfect look for a Gala Event. Natalia’s work has been featured in the pages of Vogue, Style, Toronto Life, Chocolate – to name a few. Now gentlemen, remember that when a girl is getting ready for an event and needs that extra 10 minutes, just chill out and go have a drink - Art can’t be rushed. Ladies, remember that he loves it when you make him shine by being your beautiful self. I asked Natalia to give us a good general tip. She recommends:

  • Never have lips, skin and eyes that are all shimmer and shine. Focus on either skin and eyes, or skin and lips. The same goes for a matte look. If you prefer the matte look, make the lips a bit shinier. Mix it up a little. This always gives the best effect.

Check out these tips to keep your face looking fresh and clean.

Before you begin to apply makeup, always start with a clean face. Always wash your face with your fingers, not a washcloth. Bacteria and the texture of the cloth may be harsh on the skin. Use upward circular strokes. This helps to prevent wrinkles.

Skin should only be washed a maximum of twice a day. Further washing will over dry the face and create more oil – promoting acne. Personal Favorite – Mereadesso Face and Neck Cleanser

This cleanser is amazing and gentle. It also comes with its own reusable cleansing cloth. Mereadesso also carries a great face and neck toning gel. Their packaging also doubles as a little makeup case to fit standard size makeup brushes.

You always want to apply face cream. Cream application also helps in the prevention of wrinkles and sets the base for the makeup.

      • You do not need to spend a fortune on creams, just compare ingredients in the most expensive creams and find a less expensive cream with the same ingredients.
      • The difference between day cream and night cream is the use of Sunscreen. Sunscreen is essential year round to prevent wrinkles as well as skin damage. SPF 15 or higher is recommended.

Personal Favorite – Oil of Olay all day Complete with SPF 15 This is also a great time to moisturize lips because by the time you apply lipstick or gloss, the balm has had time to sink in. If there are any dry flakes, the night before when brushing your teeth, rinse your toothbrush and brush lips gently and apply some Vaseline. Your lips will feel like new by morning.

Personal Favorite Lip Treatment – Benefit Dr.Feelgood’s Lipscription Kit The kit includes buffing beads and lip balm. I love the beads as they are very good at sloughing off flaky skin on the lips and the balm is super moisturizing and great for men as well as it is more matte than shiny.
